You will appreciate that considerable time had already been spent in preliminary discussions and negotiations with the buy-out team and how it looked as if the whole deal was doomed to failure, chiefly due to the senior managers having had little experience of a commercial setting, coming as they did from a background of social work and teaching. Your input in resurrecting the deal was invaluable and of particular merit was the considerable expertise you demonstrated in helping the team see the benefits and possibilities that the buy out presented from their point of view.
I was particularly impressed by the way your negotiations were conducted in an uncomplicated manner and non-confrontational manner but without giving ground on essential points. Your ability to give sound advice to both sides without fear or favour was a learning point for all concerned and certainly enabled both sides to both trust and respect you and your points of view. I have no doubt in my mind that the deal could have easily foundered when the buy out team were initially refused their funding, despite their own professional advice. Your expert input into their revised application helped saved a deal which everyone wanted to see happen but couldn't quite see how.
