Tim joined Scrutton Bland in 1990 having previously been an underwriter with a leading UK insurer. Tim is Senior Partner and also heads up our Insurance Broking business with Dan Bligh. The insurance client portfolio is made up of mainly owner managed businesses and private clients but in recent years has developed a specialism in providing insurance solutions for charities.
Nick joined Scrutton Bland in 1993 and trained with the firm until qualification. Appointed a Partner in April 2004, Nick is one of our two Partners who lead the Ipswich based Business Advisory Team looking after a wide and varied portfolio. Nick specialises in advising owner managed and family businesses, professional partnerships and farming clients. He is the firm’s Finance Partner and a member of our Independent Financial Planning division’s senior leadership team. A governor at Ipswich High School, Nick is also treasurer of Ipswich Sports Club and the Independent Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee of New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership.
Gavin is one of our Tax Partners in our Colchester office. Before joining Scrutton Bland, Gavin worked as a solicitor for over 14 years at a number of large regional law firms, notably Birketts and Thomas Eggar.
One of his particular areas of expertise is property and land taxation including Stamp Duty Land Tax, VAT, Capital Gains Tax, the Construction Industry Scheme and Inheritance Tax related reliefs such as Business Property Relief and Agricultural Property Relief and has acted for developers, charities, property investment companies and individual landowners across Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk. Gavin is a member of the Stamp Taxes Practitioners Group which is a forum for practitioners who specialise in Stamp Duty and Stamp Duty Land Tax. Gavin also provides advice to family owned businesses and owner managed businesses on succession planning, business reorganisations, and tax efficient means of incentivising key employees. Gavin is a non practising solicitor within Scrutton Bland.
James joined Scrutton Bland in 2016 as a Partner to develop and lead the Employee Benefit team. James has 28 years' experience in dealing with all types of Employee Benefits Pensions and Rewards. James trained at a leading international broker before joining a regional practice and then setting up and running his own successful business from 2001 until its sale in 2013. James studied Biochemistry at Kings College London and is a Fellow of the Pensions Management Institute (FPMI), Associate of the Personal Finance Society (APFS) and a Chartered Financial Planner.
Graham is one of our Tax Partners working from our Colchester office, who brings extensive experience in dealing with the tax affairs of high net worth individuals and their families to the firm. His wealth of knowledge is used to assist clients in mitigating their exposure to income tax, capital gains tax and inheritance tax. Graham is particularly keen to work with Scrutton Bland’s financial services team whose work compliments the tax planning advice team to provide an integrated planning service.
Graham is tasked with leading Scrutton Bland’s strategic approach to the government’s electronic taxation initiative, Making Tax Digital. With his in-depth knowledge of both tax and accounting software, Graham is uniquely placed to assist clients with both Making Tax Digital as well as cloud accounting systems, showing them how these can be used to streamline their financial processes and benefit them in planning their tax liabilities. Graham qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1998 and as a Chartered Tax Adviser in 2000.
Paul Goddard has been with Scrutton Bland since 2001 and has a large portfolio of Internal Audit contracts.
Paul has a broad experience in working with a range of clients, including the public sector, education, and charities as well as commercial organisations. He specialises in providing targeted assurance advice to clients of all sizes, enabling them to embed risk management and develop robust governance frameworks to deliver the organisations’ objectives efficiently, effectively and economically. Paul works from our Ipswich office and regularly travels across the country to support and advise clients throughout the UK.
Sharon has been with Scrutton Bland for 30 years and is a partner in our Corporate Services Department based in Ipswich. She specialises in providing services to larger owner managed businesses, professional partnerships and charities. She feels that her years of experience in practice and of previously managing the firm give her a great deal of empathy with her clients accounting, tax and business issues.
As well as delivering compliance based services of audit and accountancy, Sharon advises her clients on corporate finance transactions.
As part of the team delivering services to Higher Education and Further Education colleges, Sharon has an expertise in internal audit services, providing these to clients across the whole of East Anglia.
Luke joined Scrutton Bland in 2017 to head up the firm’s Corporate Finance offering and develop its already well established advisory arm – a practice assisting entrepreneurs to buy, sell, refinance, reorganise and value their businesses.
He studied at King’s College, Cambridge, and went on to qualify with PricewaterhouseCoopers, spending six years with their East Anglian practice. Luke then relocated to the Middle East with Ernst & Young, leading a diverse corporate client practice, and spending a year seconded to the Central Bank of Kuwait after the 2008 crisis. He then worked for a year in Canada and the USA with EY, mainly being involved in large scale IFRS conversion projects.
On returning to the UK he spent five years as partner with a smaller firm based in the East of England, delivering accounting, financial reporting, audit, corporate governance, corporate finance and transaction support services to a range of clients including listed companies and complex international groups.
Luke is proud to serve as one of the region’s ICAEW’s (Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales) Ambassadors, a role which sees him bringing together and representing members of the profession. He is a passionate advocate for trade, enterprise, job and wealth creation in the East of England and a frequent speaker and media commentator.
James joined Scrutton Bland in Ipswich in 2014 after three years as group finance director of a large group of companies; interests in property, manufacturing and technology. He qualified as an accountant with a large regional firm in Norfolk. He became a partner in 2006 and subsequently moved to Suffolk. James advises a variety of different businesses with particular expertise in the agricultural, land & property and construction sectors. He enjoys helping SMEs to grow, develop and achieve their financial objectives and using his industry experience to provide tailor-made advice.
