Scrutton Bland has announced their membership of the government’s Disability Confident scheme. The professional services firm joins over 20,000 businesses and other organisations that are currently signed up to the scheme, which aims to play a leading role in changing attitudes and unlocking employment opportunities for disabled people.

The accreditation means that Scrutton Bland is now a Disability Confident Committed Employer, and has pledged to:
  • draw from the widest possible pool of talent
  • secure high-quality staff who are skilled, loyal and hardworking
  • improve employee morale and commitment by demonstrating that you treat all employees fairly.
Caroline Bixby, HR Director commented: “Joining the Disability Confident programme is not just about recruitment, we are committed in our development of our working environment that we are a diverse workforce, bringing with it a sense of inclusion and understanding that whether you are able bodied, disabled or have a hidden disability. We have found it is what individuals bring to the team that is the important thing; creating a culture that values the benefits of an inclusive workforce makes our business stronger. It’s something we have been developing for a number of years but having the recognition from Disability Confident allows us to show this easily to potential candidates.”

Jason Fayers, Managing Partner added: “Being recognised as Disability Confident also helps our clients and other businesses identify us as a firm who is committed to equality in the workplace. As for our employees, it gives a very clear signal as to what type of employer they are working for and identifies Scrutton Bland as one that values the individual and looks beyond disability to the ability of a person.”

Scrutton Bland joins a wide range of Disability Confident scheme members from all areas of UK business including BT, Coca Cola European Partners, Channel 4, John Lewis and Partners, and Microsoft. The scheme offers guidance and sources of support, allowing employers to build their knowledge, skills and reputation and helping them to realise more of the benefits of employing disabled people.
