Scrutton Bland expands with the appointment of a new Tax Director

04 January 2022 - Elizabeth Nichols

Scrutton Bland has strengthened their Private Client Tax team in Ipswich with the appointment of Simon Hurren as Director. Having trained with a top ten accountancy firm and with experience at a national and regional level, Simon has recently joined the East Anglian firm to further assist the firm’s growth strategy.

Simon specialises in providing tax services to private clients, in particular high net worth individuals and families needing advice in their personal tax affairs. These can range from multi-generation family groups, entrepreneurs, sportspeople and individuals needing guidance on the most tax-efficient way of managing their assets. “I particularly enjoy building up relationships with clients over a number of generations; getting to know them enables me to offer the most appropriate and useful guidance to help make their money work most effectively for them,” comments Simon. “Some taxes, like Inheritance Tax can be mitigated with specialist advice, and passing on wealth is an issue that many people worry about.”

Simon continues: “A good adviser can also help you with planning major financial events like moving abroad or to the UK, assisting a son or daughter through university, and setting up trusts to protect and manage the finances of younger family members.” Simon also recently qualified as a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, underlining his expertise in this specialist area of financial advice, and he is keen to share this with other practitioners within the business. “One of the reasons I joined Scrutton Bland is the breadth of services they offer, which means it is easy to call on the expertise of colleagues in other professional services, like personal insurance, and they in turn can come to me for advice in areas like trusts, estates and Capital Gains Tax. Scrutton Bland have a strong culture and an excellent reputation for looking after their people and helping them develop their careers. I’m delighted to be joining them as they continue to expand their service offering.”

Scrutton Bland’s Tax team is based across their Ipswich, Colchester, Cambridge and Diss offices, and Simon will mostly be working out of their Ipswich base on Crown Street. Jason Fayers, Scrutton Bland’s Managing Partner commented: “It’s great to have someone with Simon’s broad experience in the Tax team. This appointment further strengthens our commitment to providing first-class tax advice to our clients, and we’re looking forward to seeing him help our clients manage their personal tax requirements.”
