The role of an Independent Financial Adviser is varied, sometimes challenging but very often a rewarding one. No one day is ever the same, the needs, aspirations and desires of each individual client are different and the role of the financial planner is to help clients identify what their financial priorities and goals are, and to offer practical solutions to help them achieve their aims.
It is obvious that a 30 year old looking to purchase a house and start a family will have very different financial needs to a 55 year old who is looking to plan for retirement, but a good financial adviser will be able to predict and react to the changing circumstances which very often occur on life’s journey.
It is important to have a rapport with your financial adviser and to be confident that they understand what it is that you wish to achieve with your wealth, but even more critical is that you are dealing with someone you trust. Always look for an adviser who is independent, this means that they can scour the whole of the market to find the right product or solution for you and are not tied to any one provider. Another thing to look out for is Chartered status, which is the gold standard for professionals; if your Adviser has been awarded Chartered Status you can be pretty sure that they have the qualifications and experience to look after your financial affairs.
Your adviser should always take the time to get know you in order that he or she can accurately evaluate your attitude to and financial resilience for risk. In doing so, your adviser can use that information to create a series of recommendations from across the whole of the market which are tailored specifically to your set of circumstances.
