Advice for Pension Scheme Trustees

For many people setting up a trust or being appointed as a trustee can be a rewarding experience. Helping to safeguard the financial future of beneficiaries is an important role and carries a great deal of responsibility.

Our team of qualified and Chartered Financial Advisers are here to help you meet your obligations either as a settlor (the person who puts the assets or money into a trust) or as a trustee (the person or people who manage the trust) and ensure you are making the right decisions for the beneficiaries.

Many of our clients wish to pass on assets to their grandchildren perhaps for educational purposes, or to help secure their first property purchase. Working with your legal team, our financial advisers can help you set up a trust, together with a letter of wishes, giving a guiding principle to the trustees of how your nominated recipient(s) will benefit.

The Trustee Act of 2000 requires that trustees must make sure that any investments made on behalf of their trust are properly diversified and suitable for the circumstances of the trust. As a trustee you are expected to make impartial decisions on all aspects of running the trust assets, adhering to the trust rules and any special terms through to overseeing the trust’s investment strategy, making payments or even winding up the trust itself.
