Congratulations! Completing a graduate degree is a real achievement, so now you are probably thinking about what you will want to do and where to start your career following university.

By completing your degree, you’ll be used to learning and developing your skills which is great, as in order to become a qualified accountant, auditor, tax adviser or complete our insurance and business services programmes, you’ll need to continue this by working towards a professional qualification.

Much like at university, you’ll have module tutors and you’ll be surrounded by people within the business who are available to help and support you. From the moment you join us, you’ll be treated as an important member of the team, valued for the unique contributions you make and the fresh ideas you can bring to both the department and the client work you are working on.

But what’s different to some other schemes is that on completion of our graduate training scheme is that, you’ll have a permanent job that will earn you a competitive salary and offer some great benefits.

What’s it like to work at Scrutton Bland?

No two days are the same at Scrutton Bland. You’ll work directly with clients and your contributions to projects will have a very real and meaningful impact on their success.

You’ll get to experience working with various businesses at different stages of their business. As well as gaining a recognised professional qualification, you’ll develop the kind of rounded business skills that will serve you well regardless of where your future takes you.

 

What you’ll do

  • Work towards your professional qualification by gaining on the job experience, putting many of the skills you’ve learnt at university into practice
  • Work with a number of businesses both locally, further afield in the UK and overseas to help us provide our clients with high quality advice
  • Gain important softer skills such as networking, working as a team, creative thinking and time management
  • Not only will you learn the information you need to complete your day-to-day role and pass exams, you’ll also work with your line manager to create a development plan specifically for you
  • Be aware of the Group’s overall business strategy and make suggestions as to how the team can make efficiencies and changes to meet these targets or improve client experience

Who you’ll work with

You’ll get to know a lot of the people working within our business as a number of our clients work with various teams within the business. Not only will you learn about your team, but you’ll get to know what others teams in the business are doing and how you can help promote those services.

From construction and not for profit to leisure & hospitality and transport & logistics – you’ll work with organisations of varying sizes. Some may be start-ups, looking to gain finance to kick start their business, others may be family owner managed businesses looking to pass their business from one generation to the next or perhaps a large corporation with offices throughout the UK and overseas. We believe having access to all of these sectors you’ll gain a better understanding of working with businesses of all shapes and sizes, letting you gain experience of working on various complex issues.

Working internationally

Scrutton Bland is a member of Nexia International, a leading worldwide network of accounting and financial consulting firms. Our membership means that we can act for clients located in the UK who need to transact internationally as well as for those overseas clients looking to set up a business in the UK, so you may also find yourself working with professionals in other countries like Germany, Austria, France, South Africa and Poland.

There are opportunities for our people to carry out secondments and get work experience at other network firms, so if you can speak another language and are interested in a placement overseas, this could be something for you to consider as part of your studies.

Salary

As a graduate, your salary will be reviewed regularly, taking into account exams that you pass, and other competencies pass exams and complete apprenticeship levels, so you’ll always be rewarded for your efforts. Our graduate scheme offers a competitive salary, with a starting salary of £21,000 depending on your experience and relevant qualifications. We benchmark against others regularly.

You’ll join our flexible benefits package with a number of voluntary benefits to choose from too. Options include private medical cover, subsidised gym membership, car leasing offers, shopping discounts and health cash plans.
