Your first step into the world of accountancy
We want to help bridge the gap between leaving education and entering the world of work by supporting and encouraging the next generation of accountants with a summer work experience programme, curated especially for those wanting to gain hands on experience.
At Scrutton Bland we have created a dynamic one-week programme aimed to equip you with the knowledge and insight you need to find out more about a career in professional services.
When will the work experience programme take place?
We will be holding the work experience weeks in both our Colchester and Ipswich offices, so please apply for the week that is best suited for you.
Colchester Office: 8 – 12 July 2024
Ipswich Office: 5 – 9 August 2024
Who is the work experience programme open to?
Our work experience programme is open to everyone, but in particular:
- GCSE students
- A-level students
- Undergraduates
- Anyone looking to start a career in accountancy
We are committed to helping people get into the professional services sector, which is why we have created this programme.
What can I expect during my work experience?
We know it can be daunting when thinking about your next step in your career. It might even be your first, which is why we’ve shaped the week so that you will gain insight into all key business areas, including Business Advisory, Audit & Tax.
You will hear first-hand experience from our current students, who will share their journeys in the world of professional services so far and be able to understand what a role in each of these areas looks like, so that when it comes to applying for a full time position, you’ll know exactly what you can expect.
Some of the key skills you will learn include:
- Communication
- Working in a team
- Problem solving

To apply for our work experience programme, you don’t need to create a cover letter or CV, or meet particular grades, we just ask you to complete a form with more information about yourself and to let us know why you are interested in carrying out work experience with us!
Please note: applications for the 2024 work experience programme are now closed, we will be releasing information on 2025 shortly.
